Can Working Moms Really Have It All?

ree

In this Own Your BS episode, I sat down with the wise, and soulful Yana Fry - Host of YanaTV and Timeless Teachings, Spiritual coach, Global citizen of Singapore, and Professional mom of baby Maya (aka the tiny CEO of the household).

We unpacked one of the biggest BS battles of modern womanhood: Career or kids? And what’s the cost of choosing both?

Here’s what we discovered: You can have it all… just not all at once. And definitely not without sleep, therapy, and maybe a freezer full of Ben & Jerry's.

This episode wasn’t just about diapers and deadlines. It was about the deep, silent load so many women carry - and the emotional resilience it takes to keep showing up.

Let’s break down the gems that every professional woman (mother or not) needs to hear.

Tip 1: Guilt is the unpaid rent women keep paying

Mother's guilt doesn’t ask for permission. It moves in, unpacks, and stays for decades. Your child could be 6 months old or 60 years old—it still whispers, “You didn’t do enough.”

✅ Here’s the deal: You will never be everywhere at once. But you can choose where you are fully. Be present. Not perfect.

Tip 2: You’re allowed to want more, without any apologies

Choosing your career doesn’t mean you love your kid less. Choosing your kid doesn’t mean you’ve abandoned your ambition.

✅ The question isn’t “Can I have it all?” It’s “What matters most right now - for me?”

Tip 3: Burnout wears pearls too

Working moms are clocking 98 hours a week - that’s two and a half full-time jobs. No wonder we’re emotionally fried, mentally foggy, and spiritually hangry.

✅ Don’t wait for a breakdown to justify rest. Build in daily nourishment: 30 mins a day. 3 hours a week. Non-negotiable. Not optional. Not selfish.

Tip 4: Know your 3 Inner P’s - and how they hijack you

Yana and I called out the 3 tendencies that sabotage working women:

🧨 The People Pleaser – Keeps everyone happy but herself

🧨 The Producer – Measures worth by output and hustle

🧨 The Perfectionist – Obsesses over doing it just right, even if it kills her

✅ These may have gotten you here… But they’ll also burn you out if you’re not conscious of them. Awareness is the first step to freedom.

Tip 5: Hurry is not a superpower - it’s a disorder

Let’s be real. Most of us are running on caffeine, Google Calendar, and vibes. But chronic rushing kills wisdom, connection, and love. You’re not saving time - you’re bleeding presence.

✅ Ask yourself: Is this truly urgent? Or am I addicted to busy?

Tip 6: Advocate for yourself

If you don’t ask for what you need, you’ll keep waiting for a permission slip that isn’t coming. Yana called this out: self-advocacy is a muscle and many women haven’t exercised it.

✅ Speak up. At home. At work. With your partner. With your boss. Not from guilt - but from clarity.

Tip 7: Therapy is leadership.

Yana spent 12 years in therapy. That’s why she shows up calm, centered, and emotionally intelligent.

✅ Inner work isn’t a weekend workshop. It’s a life-long muscle that makes you less reactive, more present, and a hell of a lot more powerful.

Tip 8: Self-love isn’t a slogan

The mic-drop moment from Yana:

“If you’re burned out, triggered, or always angry - it’s not because you’re too busy. It’s because you’ve forgotten to love yourself.”

✅ Before you do another thing today, ask: How can I love myself… today?

The Wrap:

Being a working woman - mother or not - is a high-stakes juggling act. But emotional resilience isn’t just about surviving it. It’s about deciding what matters, creating boundaries, and owning your space with bold self-love.

This episode was warm, hilarious, and full of truth bombs for every woman who’s ever asked:

“Am I doing enough?” The answer? Yes. And you deserve to rest too.

Big thanks to Yana for being a beautiful blend of sass, strength, and soulful wisdom.
